BEST organized pre-Summit consultation forums among groups of education stakeholders to serve as platforms for tackling their respective issues and recommendations before they were integrated in the national Education Summit agenda.

Representatives of donor agencies that have investment priorities in education meet at an Education Donors Group (EDG) meeting held on 24 November 2017 at the Australian Embassy to discuss key themes and perspectives that they collectively like to be represented at the upcoming 2017 National Education Summit.

Following an initial meeting on 11 October 2017 among the trifocal education agencies and other organizations to discuss the Summit theme, objectives and consultation priorities, BEST funded two regional consultations  on 21 November 2017 in Cebu City for the Visayas-Mindanao cluster and on 22 November 2017 in Manila for the Luzon cluster.  The consultations deliberated K to 12 implementation and related issues, education and economic development and social inclusion.

An Education Donors Group (EDG) Meeting was held on November 24 at the Australian Embassy to discuss key themes and perspectives on education sector priorities. The Australian Government’s representatives led other donor agencies including the United Agency for International Development (USAID), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Asian Development Bank, among others, in developing common messages to share and advocate during the upcoming Summit.

BEST also supported the 2nd part of this year’s International Leadership Summit and Seminar on Inclusive Education at the UP Film Institute in Quezon City last November 27-29.  Also held to consolidate inclusive education agenda for the Education Summit, the forum sought to continue the dialogue in inclusive education and broaden its scope to address exclusion due to gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation and ability. It was designed to serve as an open, participatory platform for participants to share, collaborate, and identify critical gaps in current practices and policies and co-create new ideas, approaches, methodologies and best practices.
